Wenham Lake Ice Company
Just over 100 years ago, ice companies were commonplace in Northern communities with access to clean lake or river water. In winter months, blocks were cut from the ice and transported to warehouses insulated for year-round use. Before mechanical refrigeration came to homes in the 1930s, many used ice boxes, keeping food cold with large ice blocks delivered directly to the door. Our ice house is loaded with details, from ice saws and tongs to the gears moving the ramp from cutting floor to delivery cart.
