Centuries ago, bridges over waterways made a significant difference to early transportation. In order to protect areas from invasion, bridges were guarded, and often included towers to watch for approaching travelers. Large bridges are still a gathering spot for the present day community, where vendors offer specialty treats and wares. Named for a beautiful town, Rüdesheim, located on the Rhine River in Germany, this covered bridge is illuminated with LED lighting. Note the details: Coat of arms above the door to the tower keep, a carved figure guarding the bridge ramp, and cheerful Christmas garland all around both tower and bridge enclosure.
