Ewart Public Library
By: Department 56 ®
Before the time of Queen Victoria, the only people who had access to multiple books in England were those working at universities, the very wealthy or the near wealthy who had enough funds to join a private subscription library and even those were very few. Ewart Library celebrates the Public Library Act of 1850 and the forward-thinking politician who helped shepherd this law through Parliament.
decal on the front of the building is the Latin word for "books" or "literature", the origin of the term library
