The Baptism Of Charles Dickens
By: Department 56 ®
Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Dickens Birth.
The current Church of St. Alban’s in Portsmouth has the original font used for Charles’ baptism on March 4th, 1812. The font was damaged, but not beyond repair, in World War II, and is now used both for actual baptisms and special ceremonies to commemorate Dickens. The adorable sculpting detail captures the baby in the minister’s arms.
