They aren’t just for kids, you know! Whether a hand-made stocking handed down from earlier generations or brand new, personalized stockings for the whole family, Christmas stockings have been “hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicolas soon would be there” for centuries. Today, we often include family pets in the stocking ritual.

Whether your family tradition is for small gifts; fruit, nuts, and sweets; silly novelty trinkets; or that one extra special gift from the wish list, everyone enjoys emptying a stocking on Christmas morning–almost as much as Santa enjoys filling them up!

You don’t have to have a fireplace to hang your stockings on, either–a book case or any shelf in the house may become a makeshift mantel. Start with a sturdy stocking holder, invite Santa to fill your stockings with treats, and let the merriment begin!
