• Coordinate lights with your tree-green cords on green trees, white cords on white or silver trees. Always a good choice -energy-saving, long-life LED lights, available in a wide variety of styles.

• How many light strands? Count branch tips and multiply by .60 (60%); adjust to the amount of light you desire. A general rule is 100 lights per foot of tree height.

• Check each light strand before using. If a strand does not light, begin at the plug end and check each bulb; replace burned out bulbs immediately to prevent strain on other bulbs.

• Make safety a priority! Follow manufacturer's instructions to determine how many strands may be safely plugged together. Use only one kind of light set throughout your tree, with the same brand and numbers of lights.

• Plug each light strand into a multi-plug power strip with surge protection for safety, to make it easy to turn them on and off, and to extend bulb life, especially on pre-lit trees.
